As a graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio, majoring in Business Administration, I enjoyed an exciting sales and marketing career that enabled me to travel the world. My passion and success propelled me into building a new career in nutrition and fitness helping others achieve optimum health and happiness.
I received my certification from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, where I was trained in more than 100 dietary theories and studied a variety of practical lifestyle coaching methods. During my studies, the dietary theory that resonated with me the most was Ayurveda.
Ayurveda, the science of life (Ayur = life, Veda = science or knowledge), is believed to be one of the oldest healing arts of all time. With its origin in India, Ayurveda has been practiced for over 5000 years. Ayurveda’s preventative mission is to purify the body, mind and soul.
According to Ayurveda, diseases often start with improper digestion maintaining that if you eat the wrong foods, your body can’t be expected to process the impurities, resulting in clogged drains. Along with a simple yoga practice, Ayurveda detoxifies the body.
Ayurveda’s 3-season diet works along with the body’s natural response to the changing seasons. In the spring we want a low fat diet, eating leafy greens and berries. Summer demands the energy-producing properties of fruit, veggies and other carbs. In the winter we yearn for hearty soups and the warming vegetables nature provides.
I best communicate this theory by doing seasonal cooking demonstrations. Menus evolve throughout the year based on ingredients that are fresh, in season and plentiful. In addition, I teach yoga and other fitness classes in Scottsdale, Arizona.
My goal is to teach those embracing a healthy lifestyle how to create a simple dish that is delicious and nutritious, and by incorporating exercise, creating the best program for balancing energy, mood and weight.
